Keep using your working copy if you have started the programme.
Practice workbook (.xlsx)Learn the skill
The first sort level makes the groups. The next level orders records within each group.
Worked example
First level: Team A to Z. Second level: Amount Largest to Smallest.
North comes first with TR-101 £120, TR-103 £80, TR-106 £50.
South follows with £90, £70, £40. West follows with £60, £30.
Follow these steps
- Select the complete A1:I9 range and open Data > Sort.
- Set Team, Cell Values, A to Z.
- Select Add Level. Set Amount (£), Largest to Smallest.
- Check Team is above Amount in the level list.
- Apply once, then check each team and the overall £540 total.
Try it yourself
Explain why running two unrelated single-column sorts is not the same as specifying two levels.
Check your practical result
- The groups are North, South, West.
- Each team is in descending amount order.
- The original fields stay paired with the correct ID.
This is your own review, not an automatic inspection of Excel.
If it does not work
If amounts are sorted globally, inspect the level order. Move Team above Amount and apply the full-range sort again.
Optional knowledge check
This check is for practice. It is not saved or required to continue.
Continue whenever you are ready. No test or recorded score is required.
