LESSON 8 OF 16 · ABOUT 15 MINUTES
Filter a list and restore every row
View North Open orders, then return to the complete dataset.

Keep using your working copy if you have started the programme.
Practice workbook (.xlsx)Learn the skill
Filters hide records. Hidden rows are still in the workbook and may still be included in formulas.
Worked example
North AND Open shows TR-101 (£120) and TR-103 (£80).
The visible matching amount is £200. The full list still totals £540.
The Summary COUNTIF for Open still returns 6, even when fewer rows are visible.
Follow these steps
- Restore Order ID A to Z. Select A1:I9 and choose Data > Filter if arrows are absent.
- Use the Team arrow to show only North.
- Use the Status arrow to show only Open.
- Inspect both records and their values.
- Clear both filters. Confirm all eight records return.
Try it yourself
Filter Status to Open and Amount to Greater Than 50. List the matching IDs, then clear every filter.
Check your practical result
- TR-101, TR-103, TR-104 and TR-108 match.
- Their amounts total £330.
- All eight records return after clearing.
This is your own review, not an automatic inspection of Excel.
If it does not work
A second filter narrows the first result. If rows seem missing, check every filter icon before assuming data was deleted.
Optional knowledge check
This check is for practice. It is not saved or required to continue.
Continue whenever you are ready. No test or recorded score is required.
Course guide and Microsoft help
Download the whole course guide (.txt)Steps primarily use Microsoft 365 desktop Excel for Windows. Other versions can differ. Formulas use English names and commas; your region may use semicolons. Work only on the fictional practice copies.
Microsoft: AutoFilter (opens in a new tab). Guidance checked 3 November 2026.
Browser knowledge checks do not execute Excel. This programme does not change your saved progress in other courses.
